Pantone reveals the 2019 Colour of the Year.
It’s that time of year where colour giant Pantone announces their colour of the year. And the 2019 Pantone Colour of the Year is Living Coral.
HOW IS THE PANTONE COLOUR OF THE YEAR CHOSEN?
Have you ever wondered how Pantone come up with the colour of the year: do they survey the public with a clipboard? Do they ask the employee of the month what their favourite colour is? Do they pull it out of a hat?
Well, throughout the year the Pantone Colour Institute carry out research across a whole host of media and societal indicators from fashion and retail, art and illustration through to social media, news and politics. In addition to their team of researchers, the Institute hosts two international meetings during the year to which they invite representatives from different national colour standards groups. These representatives take part in two days of debates and presentations to pick the colour for the coming year.
SO WHY HAS LIVING CORAL BEEN CHOSEN?
Executive Director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman explains that the onslaught of digital technology and the increasing trend of consumers ‘seeking authentic and immersive experiences that enable connection and intimacy’ the colour Living Coral represents our ‘innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits.’
Fat Heads have some other ideas…
Maybe they’ve just got the colour hues of the new £50 note in mind.
Or the Pantone gang were just inspired by the upcoming flurry of prawn cocktails people will be having on their work Christmas do.
