This week we took a few hours out of the office to attend the excellent 95 exhibition at Classic Football Shirts’ store on Deansgate in Manchester.
The event centres around 95 shirts that showcase Umbro’s influence on football over their history and it is no coincidence that they are celebrating their, yes, you guessed it, 95th birthday.
It is always a treat to get into have a scoot through the vast archive of shirts that Classic Football Shirts have in stock but this was an extra level of special, we were literally like kids in a sweet shop and we weren’t the only ones, later that afternoon we spotted Eric Abidal in the Classic Football Shirts shop having a nose too.
Featuring famous kits from Merseyside to Manchester, Europe and beyond there is something here to get even the most football sceptic of people to hark back and enjoy.
A root around and we all had individual favourite kits that we were sticking to – ranging from the 1989 Ajax away through the 1983 Newcastle away kit to the iconic 1990 World cup kit.
Since 1966 the list of honours that clubs whose kit was adorned with the famous diamond of Umbro are truly incredible:
- 5 world cups
- 8 European cups/champions Leagues
- 7 EUFA Cups/Europa Leagues
- 11 Premier League titles
- 9 first Division titles
- 11 FA Cups
- 11 League Cups
- 15 SPL Titles
- 8 Eredivisie
- 7 Ligue 1
- 5 Copa Libertadores
- 5 Gold Cups
- and 5 Asia Cups
Curated by the editor of Mundial magazine they have something really special here that any football fan needs to get along to, but you will have to be quick as it finishes this Sunday 12th April.
