Launching a new ED6 Pathways Section for East Durham College website.

Fat Heads Creative Studio, a digital design and development agency renowned for its work with North East-based institutions and businesses, has unveiled its latest collaboration with East Durham College: the design and development of the ED6 Pathways section on the College’s website.

This new section, launched in May 2025, serves as an innovative and intuitive tool to help students map out their future. Building on the full website redesign Fat Heads completed for the College in 2022, the ED6 Pathways section represents a strategic evolution in East Durham College’s digital offering—providing clear, user-friendly guidance for students as they plan the next steps of their academic and professional journeys.

The ED6 Pathways section allows students to explore and select the most suitable A Level combinations to prepare for university, higher apprenticeships, or specific career goals. The experience begins on a dynamic landing page, which features a bold promotional banner, an informative introduction, and a comprehensive list of career pathways. Each listed pathway leads to a dedicated page outlining the educational routes students can pursue by selecting relevant A Level subjects and any additional qualifications.

Crucially, each pathway page includes detailed entry requirements—specifying the GCSE scores students must achieve in particular subjects to qualify for their desired A Level courses. This level of detail ensures that students have a clear understanding of what is required, supporting better decision-making from the start of their post-16 education journey.

Behind the front-end experience is a robust content management system that empowers East Durham College’s administrators to easily update and build new pathways. Using a streamlined backend interface, staff can select A Level courses from an existing list, which then automatically links to individual course pages on the website. This integration ensures consistent, up-to-date information across the platform while reducing administrative workload.

Fat Heads’ design approach drew from the existing ED6 Pathways brand, blending it with the broader East Durham College website aesthetic. The result is a visually cohesive section that maintains brand consistency while also standing out from the standard site design. This balance of familiarity and distinction helps to draw student attention while reinforcing the overall ED6 identity.
