Handled with care

The United Kingdom Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (UKASCC) are a brand new charity providing support and care to all those directly and indirectly affected by cancer in the UK. A key part of setting up the charity was the development of a website to showcase their services and allow visitors to interact and contact the charity.

Web design experts, Fat Heads, took up the challenge to create a clean, engaging and well-structured website that would appeal to the charity’s key demographic.

Fat Heads were able to use the charity’s pre-existing brand guidelines to add an aesthetic splash of vibrancy amongst the crisp white backdrop. With the client expressing concern about the use of stock imagery with such a sensitive subject matter, the bright colour palette and geometric shapes of the corporate brand to create a vibrant look and feel to compliment the minimal use of imagery.

I have had the pleasure of working with Fat Heads on a recent website development project for a new charity. The guys were able to guide us through the design and development process clearly and efficiently.

Website registration and user dashboards

We designed the website to feature a user registration call-to-action on all site pages. From there visitors to the website are taken to a form page where they can register for a user account. Once approved by website administrators, users can then log in securely and access their personal dashboard area where users have unique access to:

  • a messaging system;
  • participate in online polls;
  • and educational content in the form of documentation, links and media.

The dashboard home screen provides notifications to unread messages and new polls to participate in so that users are always up-to-date with the latest information.

When we had questions, enquiries were dealt with quickly, and effective solutions suggested every time. I felt the company offered good value for money and would have no hesitation in recommending them.

User engagement

A smart feature that was implemented onto the website are online user polls that allows the charity to get feedback on related news, events and topics. As polls can only be accessed via the secure user dashboard area, user submissions are kept private. However users are able to view the results of polls. Website administrators can place a closing date on polls keep them time sensitive and relevant.
