Redesigning the Antofagasta Football League club crests.
Fat Heads are no strangers to the world of football illustration. Recently we were invited to create a football map for the Asociación de Fútbol Amateur Luciano Durandeau Prado. That mouthful translates as the Amateur Football Association Luciano Durandeau Prado or the Antofagasta Football League based in Chile.
The map contains a detailed overview of the amateur league using minimalist versions of each club’s crest, badge or logo. Fat Heads set about recreating 48 individual team crests (plus the overall Association’s badge) by stripping each logo down to its simplest form whilst clearly retaining the identity of the original badge.
History lesson. Irishman James Clarke from Radnorshire left the UK from Liverpool on the 24th May 1872 and settled in Antofagasta, Chile. Clarke became the founder and first president of the Antofagasta Football League in 1910. The official title of the Association, Luciano Durandeau Prado, is named after the man who donated land to build the first football field in the region.
Also featured on the map are the major stadiums within the region which required their own icon as well as a section at the bottom for statistics and honours. The full map in all its glory can be seen here.
